The legacy Stalin left behind is perplexing.
Although he was directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions of people, Stalin was still adored by the large majority of the Soviet population, due to much propaganda sucess and the cult of personality. This admiration continues today. Many point to Stalin’s victory during World War II or his industrialization of the country as proof that he saved the country from certain ruin.
One of the world’s most ruthless dictators still has a growing number of followers and support.
Like when my co-teacher was telling me about how great Stalin was and how of course the Soviet Union fell without him, no one else could be as wonderful of a leader.
